Bartonellosis is an infectious diseases caused by the bacteria Bartonella. Bartonella includes at least 22 species of bacteria that are mainly transmitted by fleas, lice or sandflies. Amongst the Bartonella species, at least 14 have been implicated in diseases that can be transmitted from animals to people. Most transmission is thought to be through a cat bite, scratch or contact with cat litter. Bartonella is a Lyme disease co-infection as they usually come hand in hand.
